Annual Book Sale. Save the date! Our traditional book sale will return from 9-4 Saturday, September 25 at Smith Vocational High School. We will collect and sort books July 12-30 in preparation for the 70th annual sale. Collection sites, beginning Monday, July 12, will be noted on our website. All categories of hardcover and paperback books in good condition are welcome except for textbooks over 10 years old. The 2020 sale had been cancelled due to the pandemic.
Our League, founded in 1922 shortly after the passage of the 19th amendment, is one of the oldest in the country. Help us celebrate our upcoming 100th anniversary by donating books, passing this notice on to friends and neighbors, and/or helping sort books or working at the sale.
While the Book Sale is a fund-raiser, it is also a community service. It offers residents a way to recycle their books ensuring they will be preserved and enjoyed by others. We also use the funds for projects like voter education and registration, candidate forums in area communities, and advocating for positions that have been researched and agreed upon by LWV. As we entered the digital age, people predicted print books would become obsolete. However, the continuing success of our book sale and increasing activity at area libraries indicate print books remain treasured in this area. Thousands of books will be available at the sale in categories from children’s to fiction, foreign language, art, history, religion, science, hobbies, biography and classics.
For more information, contact Margie Riddle firstname.lastname@example.org. Sorters are always welcome July 12-August 6 from 9-12 weekdays at Smith Vocational High School on Locust Street in Northampton. An experienced sorter will be available.
