This action alert is from LWVMA. Extending detention for migrant children: The proposed rule “Apprehension, Processing, Care, and Custody of Alien Minors and Unaccompanied Alien Children” would modify the Flores court settlement which limits the detention of immigrant children to 20 days and establishes basic protections such as requirements for sanitation, living conditions, and adequate food/water for immigrant children in detention. The new rule could allow immigrant children to be detained indefinitely. Indicate that you support the Flores settlement as it currently exists and oppose the proposed changes.
Suggested comments; I support the Flores settlement as it currently exists. Do not change it. Do not detain immigrant children for more than 20 days. Replacing family separation with indefinite family detention is inhumane and cruel. Do not overturn protections for immigrant children. President Trump’s immigration policy is ugly, it’s wrong, and it is not based on American values.
